Thungdimoba, Chemdila win Mokokchung Marathon 2018

The grand Mokokchung Marathon 2018 organized by the Mokokchung Press Club in partnership with WSSO, PHED, Mokokchung Division culminated successfully with Thungdimoba, from Tuensang district winning the race in the male category while Chemdila of Lijaba Lijen Ward came first in the female category.  

 Altogether eighty seven runners – 64 males and 23 females – participated in the marathon race. The runners were from all walks of life. The youngest runner was a nine year old girl, Sentilemla from Dilong Ward Mokokchung. The race which was programmed to take a whole one and half hour, ended precisely at 1:27:08 hours.  

The Marathon Race, which is one of the biggest races in the town in recent times, was held in commemoration of World Water Day on the theme ‘Nature for Water’. The ongoing school board examination retrained the students to participate in the marathon; nonetheless, the response was exceptional, especially the support from the different apex organizations and the Ward Councils. After thorough discussion, and taking into account the paucity of time and resources, the organizers predetermined the length of the race at 13.2 Kilometers and 5.2 Kilometers for the male and female runners respectively. Team Spearhead Motorsport Initiative – the technical support team – with their elaborate planning, mapping of routes and time keeping etched their professionalism in conducting such events, and also made each participants feel a part of being in a professional event.  

After the flag-off at Town Square, the race culminated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex where the president of Ao Senden, Imliyanger Jamir (who is also the ambassador for Swachh Bharat Mission) gave away the prizes to the winners. The Mokokchung DPRO, Chuba Walling – who is the patron of the Mokokchung Press Club – took the honors in giving away the fifteen consolation prizes to the participants.   This Mokokchung Marathon 2018 was organized by Mokokchung Press Club as part of its annual social activity as a contribution to the society.  

Nonetheless, the MPC President, Limalenden Longkumer and Mokokchung Marathon 2018 Organizing Convener Limasenla Jamir, expressed deep appreciation to all the individuals, groups, organizations, councils etc for their selfless support in making the event a grand success.

  The MPC particularly acknowledged the PHE Department, Mokokchung Division for commemorating the World Water Day through the Marathon race; the Club also acknowledged the Ao Senden – apex Ao people’s organization for sponsoring a special prize and also for taking the honors of giving away the prizes to the winners.  

The MPC also acknowledged the CMO and SP Mokokchung for their logistical support; the Team Spearhead Motorsport Initiative (SMI) for their professional technical support, the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industries for providing the drinking water, the participants and well-wishers for making the event a grand success.  

The MPC also deeply acknowledged the Mokokchung DPRO for the sound systems and all the print media houses for their unstinting support and mass publicity.  

Moreover, the MPC expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Mokokchung Village Council for their whole hearted support and also the different wards under Mokokchung town especially, the Ward Councils and citizens of Sungkomen, Majakong and Kumlong for their assistance in arranging water points for the runners.  

The MPC, through the successful organizing of this marathon race, expresses deep hope that the importance of water conservation, preservation and judicious utilization had been disseminated to the public and has projected the citizens of Mokokchung town as part of conscientious a society by joining in with the world in marking the World Water Day.
