Thurutsuswumi people urged to preserve culture, traditions

Phek, January 22 (MExN): Dr. Er. Vekho Swuro, President, North East NGO Federation (NENGOF) on January 20 stated that the identity of a person is revealed by his/her culture and traditions and thus real identity is born out of culture. In this context, Swuro urged the people to keep preserving and promoting the culture and traditions.

He further maintained that showcasing the aged-old traditions is part of preserving the social values and thus observing cultural days should continue even in the near future so that the right message is clearly passed on to the  coming generations.

He was speaking on the first day of the two-day 26th Cultural Day of Thurutsuswumi as chief guest at the village. The event was organized under the aegis of Thurutsuswumi Cultural Association. Swuro, while terming Thurutsuswumi as an important village having a historical nature, said the village stands at an important location surrounded with rivers – one flowing to Chindwin river and the other to Brahmaputra. With rich cultures and traditions, it is one of the honest villages from among the Chakhesang tribe, a press release mentioned him as saying.

He further stated that the village is still upholding the spirit of nationalism. It was noted that the village had protected the Naga leader AZ Phizo by sheltering him under a tree for a long period of time.

Urging upon the village to respect the Chakhesang Public Organization’s (CPO) resolution in letter and spirit, Swuro added the apex tribal organization is pursuing with the mandate of the entire Chakhesangs. He asked the Chakhesang community to respect each other and live a peaceful life. Stating that peace and unity is the sole slogan of the Nagas, he further said Chakhesang should uphold the aspiration of the Nagas as peace loving citizens.

The two-day long program featured several indigenous cultural activities.
