Mokokchung, January 20 (MExN): Titans CC defeated Sovran CC by 28 runs to lift their fourth consecutive MDCA Inter Club T20 Cricket Tournament on Friday at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex. With this win, Titans are on a 23 game unbeaten streak in the tournament. Asked to chase 135 to win the title since 2004, when they claimed the prestigious MDCA T20 crown, the Sovran CC were bundled out in 19.1 overs mustering just 106 runs. The match, a wonderful advertisement for cricket in any format, was a roller-coaster of runs, reality checks and reasons to wonder what would happen next. Most magical of all in the Titans’ innings of 134/4 was the inning of Longsasunep. As feisty as the Sovrans were in the field, they also cost themselves when they failed to run out Longsasunep with the first ball of the 19th over. Longsasunep finished not out on 25, and more importantly survived to marshal the last 6 balls of the innings. Imliwapang was the only bowler from among the six the Sovran used on the day, who gave some hard time to the Titans batsman. Thejasol and Tiaakum picked 1 wicket each. Akumdong with 38 runs was the top scorer for Titans while Surendra Singh chipped in with 29. Despite their shaky batting, the Titans had brought their A game. Chasing the target, Sovran CC lost their opener as early as the first over. Yongsamong (18 runs) and Thejasol (39 runs) built a good partnership to keep Sovran CC in the hunt. But the introduction of Longsasunep in the bowling attack choked the Sovran batsmen. Longsasunep who was later adjudged man of the match took a hat trick – the second of the tournament – and finished with 5/11 in 3 overs. Bikash Singh and Toshimeren took 2 wickets each.
