TMB wins 11th Open Basketball C’ship

Champions of the 11th Open Basketball Tournament, Team Mystic Ballers with the runners up Orca along with dignitaries and organizers.

Team Mystic Ballers (TMB) today became winners of the 11th Open Basketball Tournament 2019 beating Orca 72-60.

Winning the title, TMB pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 60,000 sponsored by Neikhru Dzuvichu & Dietho-o Sachu. Runners up Orca walked away with a cash prize of Rs.30,000 sponsored by Lhouzotuo Rame.

Semi finalists Stallions and Amplified received Rs. 10,000 each sponsored by Aze Mepfhuo-o and Vizhatuo Michael Yhome.

Kevin Tale of Orca bagged that Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and received Rs. 10,000 sponsored by Nouva Chu, Borpara, Guwahati.

In the Xavier Rutsa Memorial 3 Point Challenge event, Binod of Road Runners bagged the first position while Mengukhrietuo of Amplified stood second place.

Meanwhile, in the KK Paul Rutsa Memorial Skill Challenge, Vikekuolie Rame of Last Kings and Saroj Magar of Road Runners stood first and second respectively.

Two modern basketball courts in Kohima

Earlier, gracing the grand finale as guest of honour, Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) Administrator, Kovi Meyase informed that two modern basketball courts will be constructed at Old Secretariat site, Kohima under sports infrastructural development through the Kohima Smart City Plan.

“Sports make us better people not only physically but also opens employment opportunities for all.

Through sports, let us prepare ourselves to be better citizens,” he added,

Mengu Suokhrie, Keneisenuo Sorhie and Crystal Queens performed at the grand finale.

Altogether, 18 teams from Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Peren districts participated in the tournament held under the aegis of Suncity Kohima in association with the Nagaland Basketball Association.
