Total knee replacement camp in Kohima soon

Kohima, October 12 (DIPR): A meeting between the visiting doctors from Maharashtra and doctors of Nagaland was held at the initiative of the Governor of Nagaland, P.B. Acharya at Raj Bhavan, Kohima on October 7.  

The visiting team of doctors included Dr. Ashok Kukade, Surgeon, Trustee Vivekanand Medical Foundation Latur, Maharashtra, Dr. JyotsnaKukade, Chief Gynaecologist, Vivekanand Medical Foundation, Latur, Dr. KantilalSancheti, International fame Orthopaedic Surgeon and Chief of Sancheti Institute of Ortho & Rehabilitation in Pune, Dr. Vijay Karnik, a leading Pathologist in Pune and Dr. KundKarnik, Paediatric Practitioner.  

The Doctors from Maharashtra offered to organize a total knee replacement camp in Kohima, in collaboration with the Indian National Fellowship Centre, Mumbai, Dr. K & T Keditsu Foundation, Kohima and Nagaland Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) soon. Dr. Kantilal Sancheti, world renowned orthopedic surgeon, offered to provide free knee prosthesis/implants during this camp. It was also highlighted that such a camp will be the first of its kind in Nagaland, and will be of immense benefit to the people.  

Dr. Vijay Karnik, with his past experience in conducting over 500 cervical cancer-screening camps, also volunteered to organize similar camps in Nagaland. Dr. Ashok Kukade suggested starting a tertiary cancer care centre in Nagaland, and also offered to help in providing free radiotherapy treatment to poor cancer patients from Nagaland at Vivekanand Medical Foundation Latur, Maharashtra.  

PRO to Governor in a press release stated that the doctors later visited the operation theatre in NHAK, and suggested to make provisions to convert one OT into a laminar flow for the total knee replacement camp. The dates for the camps will be announced once all possible arrangements have been made.
