A two-day training on ‘Drug Law Enforcement’ began today at the Directorate of Excise, Dimapur. Organised by the state Excise with the objective to better familiarize enforcement personnel with the prevailing drug enforcement laws, 19 Excise personnel and 9 from the police from across the state signed up for the seminar. Intelligence Officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Zonal Guwahati office – Ruskin Talukdar and Anjane Kumar have been roped in as the resource persons. The day’s session primarily dealt with the procedural aspect of the NDPS Act with the resource persons stressing on just how crucial it is for enforcement personnel to have good grasp of the Act and exercising its powers. According to the resource persons, investigators may have a seemingly foolproof case but chances are it would not stand in court, all for a lack of adopting the procedural formalities as laid down. At the inaugural session, Commissioner of Excise, Tarep Imchen had also stressed on the essential aspect of familiarity and being well versed with the rules and procedures in law enforcement.
