Training held for tribal farmers of Thanamir village

Kiphire, November 15 (MExN): ICAR Nagaland Centre organized a three day training programme on ‘Alternative livelihood option for food and nutritional security of tribal farmers of Thanamir village’ under Kiphire district from October 29-31, 2017 under Tribal Sub Plan. The project was initiated with an objective to provide alternative livelihood through various agricultural and allied activities and to conserve the existing wildlife biodiversity. The villagers were trained on various farming activities including vegetable cultivation, piggery management, backyard poultry management, mushroom cultivation, vermi-compost, protected cultivation. The scientists also sensitized the villagers on the importance of wildlife biodiversity and encouraged the villagers to partake in conserving the forest.  

Dr. Rajesha G, Dr. Azeze Seyie, Dr. Mahak Singh and Romen Sharma of ICAR Nagaland centre were the resource persons in the training programme. As part of the intervention, inputs like good quality seeds, improved poultry birds and piglets, artificial insemination in pigs, mushroom units, protective structures, vermicompost unit and water harvesting structure will be implemented to facilitate their agricultural activities.  

During the valedictory programme, seeds of various winter vegetables and vermi-beds were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 35 farmers participated during the training programme, which was facilitated under the leadership of Tsechimong, Village Chairman and Tangit, missionary NBCC.
