‘Try to create history. Don’t just read History’

The 69th biennial general conference of the Southern Angami Students’ Union (SASU) got underway at Mima village under the theme “Metamorphosis of ideas and approach.”

Addressing the inaugural session here today, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso, managing director KOHIMAs stressed on the need to have better ideas and better approach to cope with the competitive world.

Our ideas and approach should be exceptional. To be different from others, you need to live and act better than what you were before and what you were yesterday, he said.

 “We should try to live better than yester years,” he said adding “only then you can create a better society.” 

He also encouraged the students to increase the volume of competency each day for a progressive society.

Stating that obtaining a good degree is not enough, he told the students to develop good character, behavior and positive attitude to succeed in life.

“Try to create history. Don’t just read History,” he told the students.

SASU president Ketholeto Anthony Zashümo in his presidential address urged upon the students to keep away from disturbances and at the same time asked them to adopt the spirit of tolerance and ever forgiving attitude towards fellow comrades.

“Let us bring forth a common ideology, sacrifice our individual interest and move together with unison belief and purpose,” he said and also called for sharing the joy and success and strive together towards common goal.

Basing on the conference theme, Angami Students’ Union (ASU) president Visako Rino said “We should all be ready to transform ourselves into ideas that we have to have new approach to live that lies ahead of us.”

Regretting that we are living in a society which is decaying with corruption, he asked “Are we, as students, as people of tomorrow going to follow the same path.?

He said a time has come to work hard and establish an ideal environment for better tomorrow.

We can no longer bask in the glory of our forefathers, he said and challenged the students to work hard and excel in the respective fields.

Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) president Vimeyol Theyo urged the students not to waste their time leisurely on unnecessary things which will destroy their study.

Quoting APJ Abdul Kalam as saying “All of us do not have equal talent but all of us have an equal opportunity to develop our talents,” he urged upon the students to perform well in their academic career.

The inaugural function was chaired by Thejangulie Yongo while SASU general secretary Keneidel Sachü read out general secretary report.

Later, Vikhweno Chale, deputy secretary, Department of Horticulture, Nagaland addressed the academic session.
Earlier, Mima Village Council chairman Neichüzo Keyie exhorted the students in the introductory session on January 18 last.

Naga wrestling and arm wrestling, debate on the topic “Hornbill festival promotes elitist culture in Nagaland,” business, meritorious award also marked day two session.

In arm wrestling competition, Kevisano Zecho emerged the champion title while Visedenü Rhetso bagged second position. In Naga wrestling Atuo Tevo stood first position while Rokovituo Lese bagged second position.

Devotional session will take place on January 20 from 9:00 AM onwards with Khrievi Sahu, coordinator, Students’ Ministry, Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) as the speaker. Valedictory function has been scheduled at 12:00 noon.
