Tsungremmong Mini Hornbill Fest underway

Heavy rain, muddy pools, stalls and games on first day

The Tsungremmong Mini Hornbill festival was inaugurated today at Imkongmeren Sports Complex admist heavy downpour by Deputy Chief Minister, Nagaland, Y Patton. Despite the rain, the sports complex witnessed a flock of participants, spectators and government officials.  

Y. Patton in his speech said that the mini hornbill festival has been initiated to boost tourism in the state and promote local entrepreneurs and to showcase the rich culture and tradition of different Naga tribes. “Mini-hornbillfestival will help in harnessing brotherhood among neighbouring districts and other states, and also gives an opportunity to display their rich cultural heritage” said Patton.  

He also added that the mini-hornbill festival should not be viewed as a waste of time, energy and resources, rather as a visionary decision taken by the PDA government to encourage people’s participation during the premier festivals of different tribes.  

Patton acknowledged the Ao Students’ Conference’s Survival Mokokchung initiative and said that it should be emulated in every district. He also called upon the citizens of the state, especially those districts neighbouring Assam to check the influx of illegal immigrants.  

Meanwhile, Minister Temjen Imna Along, Minister conveyed Tsungremmong greetings. The first day of the festival witnessed the inter-ward tug-of-war competition, indigenous go carting race and the inauguration of more than a hundred different stalls.
