Tuphaleri Riverine Project launched

Parliamentary secretary for Fishery, Relief & Rehabilitation and Printing & Stationery S. Heno today inaugurated the Tuphaleri Riverine Project at Chizami under Phek district. Inaugurating the project, Heno called upon the public to maintain it well and gain maximum benefit from it. Handing over the same to the community for management of the project, he also assured that the department will also extend all possible help to the community in future as well.
He asserted that the state is witnessing lots of developmental activities across the length and breadth of Nagaland after the formation of DAN government under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
“DAN is people government,” Heno said adding that the government is undertaking various developmental activities for the welfare and progress of the populace.  He said that developmental activities have been possible under the good leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio.
Stating that development can take place when there is peaceful environment, he stated that the state government is making its best effort to bring peace in the state, and also to bring the people together.
Everything is possible through peace and unity,’ he said and called upon the people to maintain peace and unity in order to avail various developmental packages.
Briefing the project, Kevisa, joint director Fishery department said the project was undertaken through Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), NABARD.  He said the project aim to create awareness to the people to conserve the indigenous and ornamental fishes which would in turn bring commercial prospect to the community. In this respect, he urged the villagers to refrain from using bomb or poisonous chemical for fishing purpose.
Kewezu G. Kenye, secretary general Naga People’s Front also spoke on the occasion and sang sweet tune on the successful completion of the project. He was hopeful that the project would benefit the rural people as fishery has direct impact to rural economy.
Both the village council chairman of Chizami and Sumi assured the government that the community would discourage the unwanted practice of poisonous chemical for fishing purpose and also assured to work together for proper maintenance of the project.
In the meantime, the villagers requested the department to allot some boats towards the project to attract the visitors viewing the potentiality of the project becoming a tourist spot as well.
Earlier, the function was chaired by C. Kapfo, director fishery department while Kewekhalo, pastor CBC said invocation. Vote of thanks was proposed by Imti, deputy director, fishery department.
