U-23 cricket tournament: Mkg, Tuensang enter semis

DIMAPUR, APRIL 16 (MExN): Mokokchung and Tuensang won their respective matches today in the last day of Group B matches of the ongoing under-23 Inter District Cricket Tournament. With these victories, both teams have now secured places in the semi finals scheduled to be played on April 17.  

Mokokchung beat Kohima by 80 runs, while Tuengsang beat Wokha by 81 runs.  

In the first match, Kohima won the toss and decided to field first. Mokokchung managed to put up a total of 128 runs for seven wickets in 25 overs. Their highest scorers were Anoksangba with 45 runs; Aloto with 27 runs and Longkitzuong with 24 runs. For Kohima, Monoj Choudhury hauled 5 wickets.  

In the second innings, Kohima were bowled out for 48 runs in 11.4 overs. Monoj and Kevibozo were Kohima’s top scorers with 16 runs and 7 runs respectively.  

For Mokokchung, Ambesh claimed 4 wickets; while Abishek, Merenkaba and Vjay Rai got 2 wickets each.  

In the second match. Wokha won the toss and decided to field first as well, allowing Tuensang to score 201 runs, while losing 7 wickets in 25 overs. Rishab was the top scorer for Tuensang with 90 runs followed by Aditya who scored 29 runs; and Pathung with 18 runs. Thechamo, Nuchumbemo Kikon and Harsh took 2 wickets each for Wokha.  

In response Wokha were bowled out for 120 runs in 22 overs, with Bijoy and Abu Salem from Tuensang hauling 4 and 3 wickets respectively. The top scorer for Wokha was Harsh who scored 40 runs, followed by Nchumbemo with 35 runs.  

The semi final matches for April 17 include Dimapur vs Mokokchung at 8:30am and Tuensang vs Zunheboto at 1:00pm.
