ULFA(I) cadre held in Tinsukia, explosives seized

Kohima, October 9 (MExN): A ‘sergeant’ of the proscribed ULFA(I) was arrested along with large quantity of explosives 8 by a joint team of Indian Army and Tinsukia police from Chikrajan, Tinsukia on October 8.

 

The arrest of “Sergeant Sabdo Asom @ Jonki Bora” averted an attempt by ULFA (I) to trigger a blast in the Tinsukia district, stated a press release from Lt Col Sumit Sharma, PRO (Defence), Kohima.

 

“Regular intelligence inputs were being received from various intelligence agencies regarding the plans of ULFA(I) cadres to carry out bomb blasts in Upper Assam and attack security forces with an aim to revive their diminishing influence,” it said.

 

After sustained efforts, a breakthrough was achieved on Tuesday when the Joint team based on specific intelligence launched multiple Mobile vehicle check points in the general area of Chikrajan, it added.

 

The joint team’s efforts resulted in the arrest of the ‘Sergeant’ along with electronic detonators, remote control and 10 kg of TNT explosive, the release noted, adding it “has struck a major blow to the proscribed group in the region.”
