The United Naga Council UNC) has strongly opposed the participation of Gaikhangam, former Manipur Deputy Chief Minister and Congress leader, in the inauguration of Scheduled Tribe Boys’ Hostel, Scheduled Tribe Girls’ Hostel and Auditorium Hall on February 29 at Longmai (Noney).

According to the programme, Gaikhangam will be the chief guest of the occasion.

In this regard, the UNC has written a strongly worded letter to the president of Rongmei Naga Council (RNC), directing the latter to stop Gaikhangam from the “official participation” of the programme so as to “avoid any untoward incident”.

The UNC said that it is upholding the "established political position" of the Nagas and also enforcing all the previous resolutions taken against Gaikhangam for his “anti Naga activities”.
