Urge to implement fundamental duties

Newmai News Network Shillong | September 25   In today's world of rising crime and increasing inhuman acts, adopting and implementing the basic fundamental duties by citizens will act as a deterrent in curbing the crimes, said Justice SR Sen of the Meghalaya High Court on Saturday.   “If Article 15 A guidelines can be implemented many crimes can be curbed, " said Sen while addressing a gathering at the inauguration of legal care and support centre at Lady Kean college. It may be noted here that Article 15 A of the Indian constitution states- Fundamental duties:  It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to abide by the Constitution and respect its ideals and institutions, the national Flag and the National Anthem.   “It is important for us to implement our fundamental duties," said Sen further adding, “We cannot ask for our rights if we don't do our fundamental duties well.” Justice Sen further said that the setting up of the centre to provide legal aid to people is basic human rights.   Meanwhile, the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, Dinesh Maheswari in his speech said, “We have duties to our personal self, family, state and towards the nation. We have fundamental duties and this starts from an individual.”   “We always talk about our legal rights but forget about our fundamental duties,” he added. Speaking about the legal care and support centre, the Chief Justice said that the centre will be a huge support for legal advice and students.   Earlier, Justice Ved Prakash said that the objective of the support centre is to familiarize the weaker sections of the society about their rights and provide them all assistance in legal matters.   The legal care and support centre was inaugurated by Chief Justice Dinesh Maheswari in the presence of Justice SR Sen, Justice Ved Prakash, students and the college authorities.
