Among the stars that shined at the Hornbill International Music Festival (HIMF) 2017, this band of boys was no less.

Five college students from Kohima, waiting for their results after their final exams were over, decided to work as food caterers for the crew and managing team of The HIMF 2017 held at Agri Expo, Dimapur.

Cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner for around 250 people from 26th of November until the concluding day of the festival December 10 is no easy feat. They start their work at the festival from 6:30 AM and wind up around 12:30 PM. Their hard work and dedication impressed and won the respect of the people at the festival.

Sharing their thoughts with us, the boys stated, “We have learnt so much from this experience. We did not know how to go about catering for such a professional event but we have picked up so many lessons along the way.”

Rongsang M, Neyitenlo Magh, Hamntsukhung, Younmi, Tiachuba Jamir are pursuing their studies in Computer Science, Civil Engineering and other fields. “It’s a first time for us working like this for an event. It’s a small job but we are not discouraged. In fact, we wanted to work to earn our pocket money during this free time available after our exams and we ended up gaining much more than just pocket money,” they said.

“We have never worked so hard in our lives,” the boys shyly admit and expressed that they would like to be hired again for similar events.

Ranging from the age group 19 to 24, the boys will continue to pursue their further studies once their results are out.

The organizers and management should be credited for recognizing and hiring these young boys although they had no prior work experience. It takes and says a lot to have faith and hand over a huge task to young inexperienced hands, for an event of this magnitude.

It should be noted that through music festivals and other events, young people are getting the opportunity to work part-time and also as professionals.
