Vanguard FC wins Capt Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament

  Our Correspondent Kohima |September 21 Vanguard FC today downed defending champion Naga FC to lift the title of the 3rd edition of Capt Neikezhakuo Kenguruse memorial football tournament here at Kohima Local Ground.   With this, Vanguard FC pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 1,70,00 along with trophy and citation while the runner-up Naga FC awarded with Rs. 80,000.   Tingyek Konyak of Vanguard FC scored a stunning long range kick outside the area in the 27th minute while Yhunshalo Kemp connected the second goal in the 62nd minute.   A lone goal for Naga FC came through the booth of Khwetelhi Thopi in the 86th minute.   Two losing semi-finalists Green FC Zunheboto and Naga Terriers receive Rs 25,000 each.   Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan, AVSM, SM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps graced the valedictory function as the chief guest.   “This year’s tournament is the 3rd edition and has grown popularity for the game of football. This has also enabled us in honoring the “brave martyr of Capt N. Kenguruse” and to ensure that the name of this brave son of the soil lives forever in the memory of the younger generation,” said Lieutenant General Anil Chauhan in his address.   He said that the tournament is aimed at fusing the indomitable Naga spirit and the passion of Naga youth for football, so that the young sporting talent of the state can get an avenue to rise and shine as professional footballers.   Organized by Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) under the aegis of HQ 3 Corps, the tournament witnessed the participation of 24 teams.   The tournament was organised in honour of Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, who laid down his life during the Kargil war.
