Various activities give boost to Clean Election campaign

Ethical, Informed and inclusive voting

Jakhama: A Signature Campaign on Clean Election & Informed and Ethical voting was held at SDO(C) office, Jakhama on February 21 with District SVEEP Icon, Kohima Esther Natso.  

Alemyapang Longchar, SDO(C), Jakhama and RO, 14 & 15 Southern Angami - I&II Assembly Constituency in his address stressed on the importance of ethical, informed and inclusive voting. While saying that BLO are agents to spread information on clean and ethical voting he exhorted them to educate voters on their rights under the Constitution. He also requested the political representatives present not to induce voters with money or threats. He expressed hope that the14 & 15 Southern Angami assembly constituencies will have an ethical and informed voting and set an example for other constituencies to follow.  

Esther Natso, in her speech said that there are cases where people have rejected money when being offered and supported the Clean Election campaign. She felt that to change it all at once may be hard but believes that if each one play their part, change will come. She called upon the elders to be the first to set an example on clean and ethical voting.  

The Signature Campaign programme was chaired by I. Changsang, EAC Kohima & ARO, 14 Southern Angami-I AC and invocation was given by Notho Koso, DB Jakhama. Vote of thanks was delivered by Weku Zhiemi, EAC Kohima & ARO, 15 Southern Angami-II AC. The signature campaign programme also involved of the playing of Kohima SVEEP Anthem and signatures supporting clean election, signed by the officials, BLOs, political representatives and Village Councils under Southern Angami village.  

‘Voting should be an individual choice’

Tseminyu: Signature Campaign on Clean Election with Kohima SVEEP Icon Esther, Natso as the main speaker was held at ADC’s Conference Hall, Tseminyu on February 20.   Voting should not be a result of inducement by money power but an individual choice said EAC, Tseminyu, and chairman of the programme Er. Kevingo Kulnu welcoming the participants.  

Kohima SVEEP Icon, Esther Natso impressed on the gathering that the District SVEEP is aimed at bringing changes in electoral politics by educating the voters to stand for right decision, and to elect visionary leaders devoid of malpractices in the election processes. She urged the participants to spread the message of clean election campaign, and to vote on one’s own choice for future development. Participants also appended clean election pledges in the programme.  

Kohima SVEEP Anthem was presented by Benlo Thyu. Tsonga Kath said the invocation prayer while, Tenushwe Kent pronounced the vote of thanks. DBs, GBs, Village Council members of the neighboring villages attended the programme.  

Call to uphold democratic tradition

Zunheboto: To promote Clean, Free and Fair election, the Zunheboto district administration organised a Half Marathon under the theme “Clean Election Run” on February 21.  

The programme was held at Zunheboto local ground where SDO Sadar Zunheboto Ajit Ranjan IAS exhorted the participants to participate in electoral process in the ensuing election, fearlessly and without being influenced by any other inducements and also encouraged and appealed the participants to uphold the democratic tradition of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful Election. He also hoped that the message of clean Election has been passed on to them and all colonies through this marathon race. Around 600 participants young and old from different walks of life took part in the marathon.  

District Icon, Kaheli Chophy read out the voters pledge and flagged off the marathon and also gave away the prizes.

Students stand for corruption free election

Mokokchung: A day after ABAM’s Clean Election Rally in Mokokchung district, hundreds of students took out a rally in Mokokchung town on February 21 supporting the clarion call for free, fair, credible and corruption free election through active participation of students in the election process, given by the District Administration  

Ayusangla Jamir, a B.A student of Patkai College, Dimapur who is Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Icon of Mokokchung District called upon the students to be a crusader for free and fair election by knowing their right to vote in the electoral democracy. She lamented that their right have been ignored leading to degeneration of the election of their representatives.  

Students from six educational institutions including students from Fazl Ali College and People’s College actively participated in the rally. Earlier EAC, Mokokchung Luchui Fithu dwelt on the objective of holding the rally and thanked the student’s community for their enthusiasm. The rally which started from Imkongmeren Sports Complex culminated at the Main Police Point in the heart of the town (Imlong place).The students walked about a kilometre through the main thorough fare holding placards with messages which read ‘electoral participation is the responsibility of all eligible citizens’ and ‘to vote is your right.’
