Vekutho Soho today emerged as the champion of 13th International Hornbill Naga Wrestling Championship 2019 held here at Kisama under the aegis of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) and sponsored by the Department of Tourism, Nagaland.
34 years Vekutho weighing 81 Kg and standing 5'7 feet tall, defeated Mhasilhousie Nagi in the final and pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 1.20 lakh.
Hailing from Phek village, Vekutho defeated Vetuzo Dawhuo in the pre-quarter final. He downed Venuzo Dawhuo in the quarter final. He overpowered Kezhavizo Thevo in the semi final & defeated Er. Mhasilhousie Nagi in the final.
Runner up 27 years Er. Mhasilhousie Nagi, son of Nisako Nagi from Jotsoma village, weighing 93 Kgs standing 5'10 feet received a cash prize of 80,000.
Er. Mhasilhousie Nagi downed Seyiekhrietuo Yiese in the pre-quarter, Rovilhoulie Pier in the quarter, Menuosetuo Yiese in the semi final & lost to Vekutho Soho in the final.
Losing semi finalists Menuosetuo Yiese from Kohima village and Kezhavizo Thevo from Chedema village received Rs. 30,000 each.
In tourist category, Dushyant Kumar from Jharkhand and Ankit Singh from Delhi emerged as the champion and runners up respectively.
Apart from Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang tribes, wrestlers from Ao and Rengma community as well competitors from Australia, Nepal, Jharkhand, Delhi, Silchar and Manipur joined the championship.
Earlier, Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, Chairman, Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board graced the inaugural function as the special guest and gave away prize to the winners.
