Vijay Hazare Trophy: Nagaland register historic first-ever win

Dimapur, September 22 (MExN): The Nagaland Senior Men’s Cricket team made history on September 21 by defeating Meghalaya by 7 wickets at the ongoing All India Vijay Hazare Trophy One-Day Tournament.

This is Nagaland’s first-ever win in a BCCI first class match or trophy after debuting in the earlier match against Bihar.

The plate Group - D match in Nadiad, Gujarat saw the team displaying solid performances in both batting and bowling department.

Nagaland rode on wicketkeeper batsman K B Pawan’s unbeaten 113, amply assisted by a half-century by Sedezalie and another 43 runs by Skipper Jonathan Rongsen.

Earlier, Meghalaya won the toss and decided to bat but a tight bowling by Nagaland ensured that the former were restricted to 246 / 6 in allotted 50 overs.

Tahmeed, Nitesh, Hokaito and Imliwati took 1 wicket each while there were two run-outs.

For Meghalaya—Abhay Nagi, Gurinder and Sylester took 1 wicket each.

With today’s win, Nagaland scorecard in the trophy is 1-win and 1 loss.

Despite a promising start, the team suffered an 8-wickets defeat in the hands of Bihar on its debut match on September 19 at Anand.

Nagaland will be Sikkim next on Sikkim on September 23 at Vadodra.
