Village councils instructed to ensure proper discharge of duties

Kohima, February 8 (DIPR): In view of the forthcoming Assembly Elections scheduled in the State of Nagaland on February 27 Home Commissioner, Abhishek Singh, IAS, has in an order instructed all village councils to ensure proper discharge of their duties and responsibilities as per the provisions of Area and Village Council Act, 1978.  

As per the provision of Section 15 (1) of the Village Council Act, village councils have been entrusted with powers to deal with internal administration and maintenance of law and order in the village.  

All village councils are required to render all possible assistance to the personnel deployed for conduct of elections and the District Administration for maintenance of law and order.  

Further, during the conduct of elections the entire law and order machinery of the State functions under the control and command of the Election Commission of India and it is the responsibility of village councils to ensure adherence to the guidelines of Election Commission of India and the Model Code of conduct in letter and spirit, informed the order.
