Village Guards participate in R Day

Kohima| January 26 : Joining along with the rest of the country in celebrating Republic day at Secretariat Plaza Kohima, the village guards from Longleng, Mon, Tuensang, Kiphiri and Meluri participated in the parade along with 21 contingents. The Longleng contingent were led by platoon commander Jammadar Y.Khamba, Mon were led by Jammadar E Peter, Tuensang by Subedar C.Mure, Kiphiri by Havaldar Major Rethsumong and Meluri contingent were led by Hav.Major R.C Nyuwi.
Interacting with media persons, one of the village guard expressed his happiness for getting the opportunity to take part along with the rest of the country and said, it is not only in villages, but if they are given more chances, they are prepared to take part even outside the state or when they are in need.
The village guards are said to be paid Rs. 500 per month and it is a voluntary service rendering to the people, protecting the village. It is reported that there they are around 12000 village guards from four districts and Meluri Sub division.
