We are intact, NPF retorts

Questions PDA’s govt silence on Citizenship Bill

Dimapur, January 7 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) today affirmed its stance stating that it will play the role of a “constructive opposition.” The party while expressing dismay, also questioned the People's Democratic Alliance’s (PDA) government silence over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (2016).

In a response rejoinder issued by the party’s Press Bureau to Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) press communiqué that appeared in the local dailies, it affirmed that the “NPF will play a constructive opposition and work for the welfare of the Naga people.” It further asserted that “the party is never interested to topple the PDA coalition government.”

The NPF also stated that “regardless of treasury bench or opposition, all the party rank and file and its 26 MLAs is intact and committed to work for the welfare of the Naga society.”

“Nevertheless, the NPF will work accordingly as supposed as per the interest of the people and the call of the time and once again reminded the NDPP that the PDA Government dooms day is soon approaching,” the rejoinder affirmed.

Expressing that it is aghast to see the NDPP led PDA Government silent over the Citizenship Amendment Bill (2016), it pointed that “the bill will directly affect not only the state but the whole of the Northeastern region. Once the bill is introduced, it will greatly affect the state.”

“The PDA government prefers to remain tight lipped and its Chief Minister turned deaf ear,” the party alleged.

Therefore, the NPF called upon the “Chief Minister being the head of the state, to make his government’s stand clear on such a burning issue for the sake of the welfare of the people.”

The NPF also suggested the “ruling party not to divert the issue just for the sake of the publicity but to work tirelessly for the Naga people.”
