We are Nagas by blood: Mao Council

DIMAPUR, JUNE 1 (MExN): “We are Nagas by blood and will remain so till our last breath,” asserted the Mao Council today, while clarifying that the total bandh launched by the council was not against any tribe or community but a democratic form of agitation against the state government.  “Though the Mao people are presently demarcated under the State of Manipur, this does not in any way determine that we are Manipuris or Meities,” stated a press note from the Mao Council.

It reminded that that the Mao Council had acknowledged and honored appeals made by civil society organizations including the Naga Hoho and the UNC to “maintain the age old fraternal relationship in order to uphold peace and tranquility for the best interest of the generations to come in particular and the Nagas in general.” The Moa Council, it informed, had also “resolved to shelve any future activities till May 31 and wait upon the Naga Hoho and UNC to arrive at an amicable solution, a letter of endorsement given to the President UNC.” However it lamented that the Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) had launched a five day economic blockade against the Mao Community from May 29. “Is this the kind of fraternal relationship that Mao’s are expected to linger upon?” the Mao Council questioned.
