Why our towns are so dirty?

Kohima Town

When we look at our town roads, footpaths, drainages, public places etc we see only dirty litters everywhere, this is so horrible. To cite few instances people who consume talab, pan masalas etc throws the wrappers right then and there as soon as it is consumed without any civic sense. Litter of sweet covers by small children is exceptional as they have not learnt civic sense yet. Even those who do not use tobacco products are no exception, because as soon as they finish sweets, chips, packaged water bottles, etc, they throw it anywhere without any hesitations. These habits shows we are still very backwards and nothing else. “Actions speak louder than the words”.

If every grown up learns to keep our cities and towns clean, it becomes very simple and we can easily achieve it. My view here is that everyone can easily dispose off above mentioned wastes at the right places like waste bins or at own home waste bins, then our town roads, footpaths, drains and public places will become automatically clean. If we all have this sense, how good it would be for us. We talked about smart cities/towns but unless we who live in it do not become smart, city by itself cannot become smart.

We all know that ‘little drops of rains make mighty ocean’, so also every individuals little litters makes our towns a giant garbage pile making it horrible and unfit to live in. Let us be more responsible and keep our towns clean which is good for all of us.

It has been observed that the administration, health department etc also hardly care about this problem. Why has this problem been neglected by the government needs to be pondered upon. The educational institutions (both private and government) can play a very significant role if they continue to create awareness on this problem as education means all round development. Why the responsible government has not done anything on the matter? Let us hope some positive action be taken by the concerned authorities to do away this avoidable problem.
