Without an established mechanism, do you think implementation of ILP in Dimapur will be effective? Why?

Some of those who voted YES had this to say:

•    Yes. The extension of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) is a first step. Slowly the mechanism can be put to place. A 90 day period was announced, so let’s hope they put the mechanism is put in place.

Some of those who voted NO had this to say:

•    No accountability and no authority.

•    No. Factors like infrastructure, workforce, informed citizens (locals) do not seem to be in place for effective implementation of ILP. We have seen how illegal immigrants penetrate and also there were cases of local 'elites' providing protection to them. Meanwhile, our silence to the CAA and following nationwide unrest and police brutality is something to reckon with, though of course with difficulty to digest. As if we are cowering under ILP and Article 371A so much so to care less about injustice and divisive policy playing outright in front of us. Our grossly misplaced stoicism (or apathy) will pay us dearly in the near future. The rightful unrest is in sore need of our warrior-like cry especially from us - students/youth.

•    No, an effective mechanism to check ILP is required. The Nagaland state government does not seem to be learning from its mistakes. No matter what the law may be, unless an effective mechanism is put in place, it will not be of any use. It will be a paper tiger.

•    No, we have a habit of rushing things without thinking first.

•    No. Without a proper mechanism in place, the declaration of Dimapur as an ILP zone is meaningless. It will be abused and misused.

•    No. When ILP cannot be implemented in Kohima how we expect it to be implemented in a place like Dimapur. More than an established mechanism we need honest officers who will not take bribes.

Some of those who voted OTHERS had this to say:

 •    When infiltration is prevalent especially in districts adjacent to Dimapur, it would be difficult unless administration including policing up heaves its role and arrangements along with the cooperation from the public. That said, our stoic silence (apart from token reactions) to CAB and to the unrest across the country especially our neighboring states is disheartening. If we are being complacent because of ILP & Article 370A or just apathy then we have failed to understand the political working and state of affairs miserably, which is a recipe for ignorance and condoning corruption and injustice. A telling voice against divisive policy and injustice and solidarity with those on the same boat is a sign of well-informed, proactive& ethically sound public. Our future doesn't bode well if this kind of reaction is going to be a commonplace.

•    To present a radical thought, I will say lift the ILP. Only then the Naga people will wake up from their slumber and realize what they have lost. We Nagas take too many things for granted.

•    Without studying the demography of Dimapur and its surrounding areas it was premature on the part of the Govt to extend ILP to Dimapur. It was a mistake because Nagaland is not prepared.
