Wokha declares 2018 as ‘Year of Cleanliness’

Wokha, May 9 (DIPR): The Wokha District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) Hhas declared 2018 as the Year of Cleanliness for Wokha under the theme ‘Clean Wokha-Beautiful Wokha.’ The proposal was submitted by MLA from 38th Wokha A/C Dr Chumben Murry.


This was announced during the monthly DPDB meeting held on May 9 at DC conference hall, Wokha. Administrator, Wokha Town Council & ADC, Nokchasashi highlighted activities to be undertaken and things to be implemented. He informed that garbage collection has been increased from 3 days in a week to 6 days a week by the Wokha Town Council. It was informed that the daily garbage generation was approximately 0.5 to 1 M/T per day.


Sweepers are to be deployed in the town on daily basis; 5 pick-up vehicles for waste disposal under Swachh Bharat Mission is in place (MoU signed); and mass social work to be conducted bi- monthly (with the involvement of the wards and colonies, all government offices and machineries, etc.), the Administrator informed.


He further informed that all shops are to keep waste bins and keep their surroundings clean, while stressing on proper drainage maintenance by the wards and colonies. The Administrator also called for improvement of facilities for sanitation workers where proper implements, tools and materials will be provided for their safety.


It was also informed that as part of the Year of Cleanliness: Acknowledgements/Awards, there may be competition among the colonies of Wokha town. The acknowledgement/awards may be given to the best three colonies, and a separate fund may be kept aside for this purpose from the LADF-common pool.


The Wokha Deputy Commissioner meanwhile apprised the board about the visit to Ralan area on April 14 during which a consultative meeting with Assam officials and officials of SSP was held to take stock of the ongoing semi-permanent structure construction.


He informed the board that detailed report of the visit has been submitted to higher authority.
