Dimapur, July 21 (MExN): The Wokha-Merapani road (interstate Highway), the only lifeline road for people of Wokha district which was extensively damaged by heavy landslides and erosions, has been restored for vehicular traffic.   The entire stretch from Doyang Bridge to Merapani (22.0-63.0 km) was damaged due incessant rain since July 4, informed a press note from Er.N.Kikheto Sumi Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Baghty Division.   It was causing immense hardship to the people particularly the areas such as Bhandari, Baghty, Sanis and Doyang Hydro Project as transportation of essential commodities as well as commuting were severely hit due to incessant rain, it said.   In this regard, the EE PWD (R&B) Baghty Division on behalf of the department expressed gratitude the district administration (DC Wokha and ADC Bhandari) for urgent needful assistance in providing the cost of fuel and other essential needs for the Mechanical operators (Bulldozer and JCB's) and PWD staffs.   They were been working day and night tirelessly including Sundays for clearing the blockage for restoration of vehicular traffic on time, it said.   The PWD (Mechanical) as well as the department of power (Electricity) Nagaland also provided Bulldozer and JCB's for clearing the road blockage, it added.

It also appreciated the Co-operation and patience shown by the public despite the hardship faced during the last 2 (two) weeks of emergency works for road clearance.   The department further cautioned the public to be careful while plying along said road as soil instability due to massive landslides are likely to occur at any time during the rainy season.
