Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Dr. Imtiwapang Aier kicked off his election campaign today by formally declaring his candidature at his native Sungratsü village in the presence of his supporters, well-wishers and party workers. Aier is contesting from NPF party for the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 23 Impur Assembly Constituency, Mokokchung and is pitted for a straight fight against NDPP candidate TN Mannen.
Aier said that apart from working as per the NPF’s election manifesto, he would work for the welfare of the constituency if elected. He said that women’s economic empowerment and youth empowerment would be his “personal manifesto” and that he would sponsor projects for women and youth in each of the village in the constituency.
The NPF candidate added he would work towards solving the growing unemployment problem by promoting sustainable entrepreneurship development projects for youths who were willing to work. His pet project “Greening Asetkong” would continue in collaboration with the Asetkong Students’ Union (AKTM), he said.
Aier also claimed that he had kept his promises made during last election’s campaign when he promised to “bring some centrally sponsored schemes to the constituency” and that he would continue to work for the people of the constituency and try to meet everyone’s expectations, if elected again.
While expressing his appreciation to all his supporters, he also thanked the Sungratsü youth and village council for ensuring “social harmony” in the village in the line of ABAM/NBCC Clean Election campaign.
NPF Mokokchung division president Moasangba Jamir also spoke at the declaration wherein he claimed that his party was the “true Naga regional party” and challenged his party workers in the constituency to ensure that Dr. Imtiwapang Aier register a bigger winning margin than the last election. He also predicted that his party was sure to win at least 7 seats in Mokokchung and 30-32 seats in all Nagaland.
Dr. Imtiwapang Aier won the Impur constituency during the 2013 elections in a Congress ticket against the same opponent. He was appointed parliamentary secretary for Geology & Mining after the Congress merged with NPF and was later elected Speaker of the NLA.
