Won’t allow construction without compensation, says SSAALWC

DIMAPUR, JUNE 11 (MExN): The SARDP Sumi Area Affected Landowners Welfare Committee (SSAALWC) has directed all construction firms to halt the ongoing roadwork at the Chakhabama-Zunheboto road under Phase-A of SARDP-NE in Sumi areas affected by the 2nd phase.

A press note from the committee however stated that it would not disrupt the ongoing work under those villages and towns not included in the 2nd phase as they were already compensated in the 3rd phase.

It demanded the immediate payment of 2nd phase compensation for those affected by the SARDP road project, informing that the areas concerned include Kilomi/M-6 & Khughutomi villages (under Pughoboto Sub-Division), Xuivi, Kilo Old, Satakha town, Zhekiye, Aghuyito town, Shoixe, Yemishe, Sukhalu, Sheyipu, Natha Zhimo and Zunheboto town.

However, Xuivi village, Satakha town, Sheyipu, Natha Zhimo and Zunheboto town are not included in the 2nd phase of compensation list.

The committee stated that it has been working for the last seven years with the Department of National Highways, Kohima and the respective Deputy Commissioners of the affected districts for the timely clearance of the 2nd phase of compensation.

“Now, leaving behind the issue of 2nd phase in a disarray manner, the NH Department and NHIDCL has gone up to the 5th phase of compensation where 90% of the affected landowners (beneficiaries) are yet to receive compensation from 2nd phase alone under Sumi area,” the committee informed.

It stated that “forcing the villages to allow the construction on our soil” without paying compensation would not be allowed.
