New Delhi, November 11 (MExN): The Central Trade Unions (CTUs) that completed a three-day ‘mahapadav’ (sit-in) have congratulated the “working class of the country” for their “overwhelming and enthusiastic” response.

The ‘mahapadav’ was held from November 9-11 in New Delhi, near the Parliament. It was attended by women workers, including scheme workers, vendors, domestic workers, construction and home based workers as well as a large number of young workers.

“Lakhs of workers from all over the country representing all the sectors of our economy have demonstrated their anger against the anti worker, anti people and anti national policies being pursued by the BJP led government at the centre,” stated a press release issued today by the Central Trade Unions, a spectrum of workers’ organizations from the country.   The ‘mahapadav’, stated the organizations, has displayed the “determination of the working class to intensify the united struggle brushing aside the machinations of the communal divisive forces trying to disrupt their unity.” While deploring the BJP led government at the centre for “totally ignoring” the suffering of the workers “due to its policies and stubborn insistence on going ahead with disastrous policies,” the Central Trade Unions maintained that in this situation, they have no option but to intensify their struggle to “reverse the anti worker, anti people, anti national” of the BJP.

Towards this objective, the CTUs reiterated their call to the working class of the country to “prepare for a prolonged agitation including strike.” If the government does not relent, the CTUs stated that they will be “forced to explore” the option of a “country wide national indefinite strike.”

Thus, as a follow-up to the New Delhi sit-in, the CTUs will take up the following activities in the upcoming months: Complete joint district level conventions by the first week of January 2018; district level ‘Satyagraha’ in the last week of January; the common date for all districts to be decided by the state level joint meeting of CTUs and industrial federations; sectoral/industry level joint strike whenever the government takes measures at privatization; protest actions on the day of the presentation of Union Budget if it contains anti worker measures; and CTUs will meet soon after presentation of Union Budget to plan future course of action.
