World Diabetes Day 2017: Right to a Healthy Future

Dimapur, November 16 (MExN): The Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), celebrated the World Diabetes Day on November 16 at Pimla Village of Dhansiripar block, Dimapur district.   Dr. Atsung Aier, Head of Department, Community Health in a press release said that a free health camp was organized for community members from the age of 30 years for the measurement of weight, height, Basal Metabolic Index (BMI), test for blood sugar, eye check up, counselling, health education and consultation with medical specialists. Altogether 59 persons were examined and advised on appropriate lifestyle changes, necessary treatment and follow-up. [caption id="attachment_318003" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Various activities undertaken at Pimla Village of Dhansiripar block, Dimapur district by Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) as part of World Diabetes Day held on November 16.[/caption] The theme for 2017 is, Women and Diabetes “Our Right to a Healthy Future.” Dr. Kunungoyi Domeh, MD, Consultant and medicine specialist from CIHSR in his address to the community said that Diabetes is a serious disease which has important health problems as it can lead to complications in many parts of the body and can increase the overall risk of dying prematurely. Possible complications include heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, developing ulcers in the legs, leg amputation, vision loss and nerve damage. He warned that most people would develop Diabetes if they were not careful about their health.   At the event, doctors, nurses, students from the College of Nursing, missionaries on training and government staff from the Sub Centre at Pimla all facilitated and conducted the camp together.   Kiyeho Swu, Chairman of the Village Council in Pimla said that he was grateful for the services of CIHSR and that through the conduction of the World Diabetes Day program, the community would be more aware and understand various issues concerned with Diabetes, its prevention and care.
