Yitachu calls for quality teachers

Dimapur, September 18 (MExN): Minister of School Education and SCERT, Yitachu has asserted that the society needs not quantity, but quality of teachers. In this context, he lamented that there are more than one lakh teachers employed in Nagaland with no improvement in the education system.

Speaking at the 42nd Annual Social of Patkai Christian College (PCC) on September 17 as chief guest, Yitachu added that 50,000 “dedicated and genuine” teachers are enough to shape and nurture the children and to build a favourable society, according to a press release.

He further lamented that “out of sheer ignorance” more than half of the citizens, lay people, students and almost any employed person in the State has a notion that politicians are corrupt and not efficient, the release said. “We are not aware of the fact that we have liberty to choose the representatives who we deem to be efficient, deserving and who we feel can serve the society,” he stated.  “We are all responsible for the affluence as well as degeneration of our State.”

The Minister also urged the students to be good and responsible citizens as they are the future of the society. He encouraged them to work hard to achieve their goals, but most of all, to forge ahead with integrity to create a just and corruption free society. He advised the students to profess what they speak.

The chief guest, who is an alumnus of Patkai Christian College, termed his admittance to the college as a great experience he would always cherish and hold dear. He also mentioned about God's love in his life and his encounter with God through the Evangelistic Summer Camp during his stay in the college, which he said, is still a motivating force in his endeavors.

The programme held under the theme ‘Harbingers' Expedition’ was chaired by Suchila Chang. It started with a prelude by Bachelor of Music (V semester). Speech on behalf of the freshers was presented by Marahang Rongnamei. There was also a special performance by Mizo Students’ Union PCC.

An informal session was also held in the evening, where many talented shows were presented by various performers, the press release added.
