NEIMUN 2018: Celebrating 6 years of Diversity and Youth Power

The North East India International Model United Nations (NEIMUN) is set to host its sixth session with the UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on ‘Youth, Peace & Security’ as its main theme. The NEIMUN Conference 2018 will be held from October 26 to 29 at Don Bosco Institute, Dimapur.  

The NEIMUN 2018 Secretary-General Roasenla Ozukum in a letter made available to the media stated that the Conference will bring together over 300 young minds from across the country, where they will receive a full-day workshop. Any individual aged between 16-25 years with interest in International affairs, the United Nations, local/international issues, debating and/or policy making can attend the Conference.  

“With a continued commitment to leave a lasting positive social impact, NEIMUN includes its ‘Speaker Series’ which will host eminent personalities, the ‘Youth4Peace’ Social Impact event, and a variety of social events for delegates and faculty advisors to exchange ideas and perspectives with one another,” she stated.  

An official handout also added that the Conference will be hosted in collaboration with UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan and Best Delegate, a global resource organisation for Model United Nations based in the United States. The conference will be a fully residential leadership conference, during which the participants will discuss, deliberate and draft resolutions on topics of international importance with focus on the theme.  

The Conference hopes to “impart talented and curious young leaders with insight on global affairs, multilateral diplomacy, world economy, United Nations and peace building, equip them with skills on public speaking, negotiating, policy analysis, conflict resolution, group communication, lobbying and leadership.”  

Some of the topics and the speakers include War in Our Minds: Why Young People Should Wage Peace-Dr. Kethoser Kevichusa, Speaker and Trainer at RZIM Life Focus Society, and author; Youth's Role in Building Peace and Security (Video Message), Gabriella Wright, English-French Actress, Activist, and Mother; The Future is now: How Young People Help in Shaping Effective Policies-Shanavas C, IAS, DC Zunheboto, Nagaland; Reconnecting Youths for Peace and Security, Mark Laitflang Stone, Founder and Director of Avenues, Shillong, Meghalaya.  

NEIMUN as a youth led organisation, “believes in the power of youths in bringing about significant changes in the prevention and resolution of conflicts in the global and regional context.” NEIMUN is a non-profit educational foundation run by enthusiastic young people and it is the first and premier Annual Model United Nations Conference in North-East India.
