YUD celebrates Tsüngkamneo festival

Dimapur, January 16 (MExN): The Yimchunger Union Dimapur (YUD) celebrated Tsüngkamneo Festival at Dimapur District Sports Complex with Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, NCS as special guest and Director NEC, Energy Private Limited Sapu Bhattacharyya as guest of honor on January 16.


Addressing the gathering DC called on the people of Yimchunger to be preservers, conservators and the protectors of nature and its resources they are blessed with. Terming the people as fortunate to have Likimro hydro project and Fakim wildlife sanctuary in their area, DC urged the people to act as facilitators to those projects and to take good care of all who come and are involved in such projects. He said that if the people neglect their area and not tap its resources wisely the area will become just a forest.


Giving a statistic of the unemployment problem in the state, DC said to the young people of Yimchunger community that the world has become so competitive that only the fittest will survive. Zehol also stressed on importance of preserving own culture though they no longer live in the villages.


Guest of honor, Bhattacharyya, in his address said that every festival is related to pre or post harvest and a time for peace and reconciliation and therefore called upon the people of Yimchunger to unite as one community without any division.


Short speeches were also delivered by vice president Yimchungru Tribal Council, Kiumuhean, ex MLA, R Tohanba, Judicial Secretary, Western Sumi Hobo, Hekhevi Achumi, President Naga Council Dimapur, Bangerloba Lkr.


Other highlights of the programme included welcome address by Convenor organizing committee, Akumba Yim, significance of Tsüngkamneo by R Shitipong, Solo of Tender Bud by Pougue Lily, folk songs by Tsunrun cultural club Dimapur and Khungriso cultural troupe, showcasing of traditional costumes, vote of thanks by President YUD, Albinus Atsumong. Invocation and benediction was pronounced by Pastor YBCD, Athsan and Church Clerk YBCD, Asangba.


The formal programme was followed by indigenous games, folk dances and feast.
