As the world battles the dreaded COVID-19, various groups and organizations in and around the state are doing their bits in contributing towards fighting COVID- 19. With the demands of specific goods and services increases, it only becomes necessary to render help to the various agencies working day and night to keep the situation in check.

To show support and to help keep the wheel of humanity moving, the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) of Mokokchung began a humble project of sewing face masks and rudimentary form of PPE. Feeling the shortage of face masks in the market, the project started on March 14. The Vocational Training Center sponsored by the YWCA of Mokokchung and members volunteered to stitch the masks financed by some of the members. The finished masks were handed over to the frontline people in the town.

“Through this gesture, we wish to spread the message of love, compassion and hope and a call to contribute to our society in every possible way, which is the central in the Christian doctrine. There is shortfall in all aspects of our lives at this moment but we can always come out with something good and positive which will be of help to the needy,” said Temjensangla Pongener, President, YWCA, Mokokchung.

With materials provide by the district administration TK Skills, a skill development firm, and Signum, a tailoring and designer boutique, are also engaged in stitching masks for free to support the district administration.

O Moa Imsong, Managing Director, TK Skills said, “One need not be a doctor or nurse, but in whichever way possible we can contribute and help fight this deadly disease. This is a small contribution for the community and we hope and pray that our service will definitely save some precious lives and that's our prayer.”

Similarly, many self-help groups and individuals are stitching masks, giving donations and helping the administration in whichever way they can to fight the disease.
