ZDLSA creates legal awareness

Zunheboto, March 28 (MExN): Zunheboto District Legal Services Authority (ZDLSA) organized legal awareness programme on consumer rights, Motor Accident Claims Tribunals (MACT) cases and criminal procedural laws at DC conference hall, Zunheboto on March 28.  

Resource person Niechochiyi Suyie, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman ZDLSA spoke on the topic ‘Consumer Rights and MACT Cases’. He presented in-depth on provisions of Consumer Protection Act and the Motor Vehicle Act.  

Suyie stressed that public/consumer should be aware of their rights and must ask for receipt of any goods purchased. In case of any grievance, they should approach the District Consumer redressal forum, he added.  

He further emphasized that the public should keep vigil with regard to plying of commercial vehicles without insurance and valid documents and in case of detection of such, report it to the authority concerned, informed a press release.  

Speaking on basic procedure of criminal laws, Tovi Z Yepthomi, Retainer Lawyer ZDLSA highlighted the rights of accused persons and the basic procedures to be followed in a criminal case. He also apprised the participants that it is their bounden duty as a citizen of India to co-operate with the investigation agency in criminal cases.  

The programme concluded with closing remarks and acknowledgment by Easter H. Yepthomi, Panel Lawyer ZDLSA.  

Chaired by Atoka Achumi, JMFC & Secretary ZDLSA, the programme was attended by Dobashi, Gaon Bura Association Zunheboto, Zunheboto Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sumi Totimi Hoho and Zunheboto Town Youth Forum. Short speech was delivered by Mongo Khiamniungan, EAC Zunheboto.
