Zeliang, Azo confident of NPF retaining power

Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang and Home Minister Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, both on separate campaign trials, have exuded confidence that the Naga People’s Front (NPF) will retain power and form the next government in the state.

“NPF alone will cross the magic figure to form the government. But, nevertheless, we will be taking all our alliance partners into confidence to form the government headed by TR Zeliang,” Azo said while speaking at the election campaign of NPF candidate Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso (Ato) from 9th Kohima Town A/C at Lower Agri ward council hall here February 21.  

He told the gathering that it is very important for the people of the constituency to send a representative to take part in the government and appealed the electorates to vote.  

Azo also asked the people not to sell their votes, not to sell their rights or surrender their rights by accepting money.

  Also asking the people to understand the power of voting, Nienu maintained that voting and electing a representative will be instrumental in shaping one’s life for better or for worse.  

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ato said: “I have decided to make a difference by contesting the upcoming 13th Nagaland state assembly elections from the capital town constituency considering that one can bring about change only by participating in the change and by influencing state policy and leadership.”  

“I believe that honesty must flow from the top,” he said, adding that leaders must lead by example.  

Zeliang campaigns in Wokha , Bhandari

Meanwhile, exuding confidence that the NPF will retain power and form the next government, TR Zeliang today “appealed to the electorates to vote in favour of the longest surviving regional party NPF which protects the interests of the Nagas.”  

Addressing election rallies in Wokha and Bhandari, the NPF chief ministerial candidate said, at least three NPF candidates out of four from Wokha district will emerge victorious.  

According to a press statement from NPF Press and information Cell, the party is fielding Yankithung from 37 Tyui A/C, Chumben Murry from 38 Wokha A/C, Achumbemo Kikon from 40 Bhandari A/C and Y. Renbomo Kikon from 39 Sanis A/C from Wokha.  

Zeliang cautioned the voters to be wise while voting and know which political party will safeguard the interests of the Nagas, the release added.
