Peren, May 9 (MExN): “Disgruntled” and “aggrieved,” the Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland has stated that it will not attend the tribal hohos meeting called by the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), Government of Nagaland on May 11 in Kohima.
The organization further asserted that it will not be a party to any decision or resolution so adopted in their absence “which may later be detrimental and jeopardizing to our future.”
In a statement issued today by its Media Cell, ZPO Nagaland noted that “the invitation indicated in Sl. No. 16 of the proposed special meeting extended to a different organization to represent the recognized Zeliang tribe of Peren district from other than the Zeliang People’s Organisation (ZPO) Nagaland was absolutely misleading and posed as stark threat not only to the Zeliang tribe but the entire interest of all the recognized indigenous Naga tribes of Nagaland.”
It pointed out that ZPO Nagaland, “the apex tribal organization of the Zeliang tribe,” had on May 7 sought “befitting and immediate clarification” from the office of the Chief Secretary on the issue, while emphasizing the “Zeliang recognized tribe’s stand that the Government of Nagaland…would concur on recognition of no such tribe as Zeliangrong in Nagaland except Zeliang.”
It was mentioned that this statement was issued due to the “insensitivity” towards the clarification letter addressed to the Chief Secretary concerning the “confusion” created through Circular No. CON-1/G/33/2008 Dated Kohima, the 30th April, 2018 of the Government of Nagaland, Home Department, Political Branch for the special meeting of all tribal hohos on May 11 at 10:00 am in the State Banquet Hall, Kohima.
The Chief Secretary, the ZPO stated, is now “solely answerable to the issue that has led to challenging the legitimate and inherent rights of our people as well as other indigenous tribes of Nagaland.”
