Zeliangrong Civil Organizations defer agitation

24-hour bandh on National Highway 37 from August 15 midnight

Tamenglong, August 8 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations have deferred their agitation proposed to begin from the midnight of August 8 considering the plan of various civil organizations of the State to launch different kinds of agitations.  

They will begin the “democratic agitation” with 24-hour bandh on National Highway 37 and ban all construction works of national projects undergoing in Zeliangrong areas from the midnight of August 15 to August 16 midnight to “press the State Government as well as the Government of India to book the functionaries who were involved in the abduction/picked up and held captive the students and youth leaders on August 4, 2018 by the NSCN/GPRN (IM).”  

A decision to this effect was held in a joint meeting of the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations held at Imphal on August 8, informed a press release from Gainithoi Gonmei, General Secretary, ZB (AMN); G. Gaiganglung, Assistant General Secretary, ZYF (AMN); Alunbou Newmai, Chairman, ZSUM.  

It informed all to extend fullest support and co-operation in the interest of peace and tranquillity in Zeliangrong areas.  

The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations had on August 5 served a 72-hour ultimatum to the Chief Minister of Manipur and Union Home Minister to book the NSCN (IM) cadres and functionaries involved in the abduction of their leaders on August 4 at Tamenglong district HQ.
