I am a Zeliangrong Naga Serving the Naga Nation with pride and honor under the leadership of Chairman Gen. (Retd) Khole Konyak and Gen. Secretary N Kitovi Zhimomi. My commitment to Naga nation is unflinching and likewise I desire Zeliangrongs to march with the rest of the Nagas. It would be wrong if I remain silent to the destructive politics played Mr. T.A Rongmei and his associates in Zeliangrong region to further their position and status. T A Rengmei first joined NNC in the early 1990’s and after a while he was caught by Indian paramilitary forces and sent to jail. After his release, he joined Congress party when S.C Jamir was the Chief Minister. Dallying-dallying in party politics without resigning from NNC, he expressed his desire to serve GPRN/NSCN for which I recommended him to Ato Kilonser. He demanded for the post of Dy. Kilonser, however it was flatly rejected because his contribution and commitment to the Naga cause were nonexistent. Dejected, he joined IM and was soon appointed as Tatar.
At the insistence of selfish and destabilizing men such as T.A Rongmei, who has not clarified as to which organisation he belongs, IM authorities have been forced to divide Zeliangrong Region into Zeilad Region (Rongmei Region), Makuilongdi Region (Liangmai Region) and Asalu Region (Zeme Region). Such short-sighted steps will surely threaten the integrity and brotherhood of Zeliangrong Nagas. I do not object if it is a technical necessity for administrating the Region however it is clearly a step to please few individuals at the cost of Zeliangrong people. The division of Zeliangrong region into three is solely to please some aspiring CAO’s. How can any leader talk about Integration of Nagas and Divide Zeliangrong Region into three pieces? I really do not think dividing Zeliangrong Region into three will benefit either Hebron Camp or Zeliangrong people.
I have learnt that the Zeliangrong Baudi (Nagaland, Assam, Manipur), All Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Rongmei Naga Council, Lengmai Naga Council, Zeme Naga Council and other Zeliangrong NGOs and Civil Societies have all recommended for the division of Zeliangrong Region in IM. I have some reservations such as, should there misunderstanding arising out of territorial demarcation or dispute among the Zeme, Lengmai and Rongmei communities in future, won’t the rest of the Nagas ridicule us? Should the dispute among the three brothers lead to violence and bloodshed, who will be responsible for the blood of the innocent? Who is sowing the seeds of division among the Zeliangrongs?
The spate of arrests and torture of GPRN/NSC cadres in Zeliangrong Region by IM group post highest level meetings is extremely unfortunate. The Naga people are watching and monitoring the progress of Naga reconciliation. Zeliangrong Region is not excluded from Reconciliation process. Decisions taken at the Highest Level Meet must be followed in letter and spirit.
