ZPO (N) declares Aug 13 declaration ‘null & void’

Peren, August 19 (MExN): The Zeliang People’s Organization (ZPO) Nagaland (N) has termed the declaration signed on August 13, to re-organize the two groups of ZPO into one unified body, as “unacceptable”, “null” and “void.”

A press release issued by the President Kezen Zeliang and Secretary Kerang Dumtta of ZPO (N) stated that this was resolved  in an emergency meeting of the executive council, at the residence of its President Kezen Zeliang, at Jalukie Town.

It stated that the house appreciates the initiative taken for the unification of the parallel ZPO within the Zeliang community, and will attend to the clarion call for it, if done for the sole and genuine intention to bring unity, “without any prejudice or mala fides intention.”

In this regard, the house resolved to abide by the decision of the Zeliang People's at the Zeliang people's Convention call on September 6.

The ZPO (N) appreciated the initiative undertaken by Namri Nchang, MLA and Advisor, Water Resources, under whose chairmanship a consultative meeting of two ZPOs was convened on August 13 at Hotel Saramati Dimapur.  It stated that the organization is of a strong conviction that facilitating unity is welcomed, but expressed its resentment and condemnation against its “arbitrary and authoritative” constitution of an interim body in haste, “without taking into consideration the popular wishes expressed by the members present, leaving rooms for doubts.”

It also opined that “no individual has a legitimacy to undermine or sideline the popular decision taken by the two most important pillars and a legitimate constituent body of ZPO (N), the Zeme council and Liangmai council, along with Zeliang Welfare Society Nagaland, on August 9.”
