ZUF joins NNPGs on Naga peace talks

Dimapur, November 12 (MExN): The Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has joined the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) in the Naga peace talks as an integral part of GPRN/NSCN “with the assurance that the political aspirations of Zeliangrong will be kept alive and to pursue through democratic political processes in post solution scenario.”

“Zeliangrong people have been struggling for a single administrative and political system for a common homeland,” a press release from ZUF, Information and Publicity stated.

In the pretext of political conflict with India, Zeliangrong areas were being encroached and colonized by non-indigenous Zeliangrong tribes. “Despite several protests, the Government of India did not do the needful and the spate of killings and atrocities continued,” the release added.

In the absence of state players, the ZUF maintained that “it was for us to protect our people from such terror activities.”

The intolerable situation had compelled the formation of a Youth Force to protect “our people from enemies to further divide the Zelingrong people.”

With the Government of India taking a stand on the principle of not accepting anymore tribal outfits in the process, the ZUF held that once the agreement was signed between the Government of India and the negotiating parties, all armed outfits will be in the path of neutralization and may cease to exist eventually.

“The Zeliangrong United Front realizing the fact that if it remained independent and not be a party to the peace process, the Zeliangrong people will have no future scope for the younger generation thereafter,” it held.

As such, it has integrated with the GPRN/NSCN for Naga political solution and for the better future of the Zeliangrong people. Hence, the Zeliangrongs of three states will now work together with the NNPGs. “No one should have any apprehension, fear or doubts about the aspiration for Zeliangrong State/Homeland post political solution,” it assured.

It further assured that the ZUF was a people's mandated political organization under the leadership of Chairman, Raitu Chawang to pursue the aspiration of Zeliangrong people.

Maintaining that the ZUF needs pragmatic approach and political vision to realize their aspiration, it called for take the Zeliangrongs “to a new era of socio-economic and political stability in our home land.”
