The Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship, a journey that began in the year 2012 will mark its 11th edition from October 20-21, 2026 at SCERT Hall, Kohima.
To be held under the theme, "The Learning Edge", the Championship is being organised by Fountain Club in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) and Excel Logics, The Morung Express and Mirrorless Films as event partners.
Briefing media persons on the upcoming event at Hotel Japfü Kohima on October 11, Convenor, Neizokhotuo Belho, said they have been attempting to organise it annually. However, owing to various circumstances such as the pandemic, the championship could not be conducted in 2021 as well as in 2024 and 2025 for various reasons.
Over the past 10 editions, Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship has seen the participation of schools from different districts across the state with the number ranging from 100 to 150 participants. The 11th edition is expected to see not less than 100 participants with each educational school/institute eligible to send two spellers each.
While the last date of form submission as per the advertisement is October 15, the organisers also informed that there has been a relaxation in this regard and participation forms will be accepted till the day of the Championship before the commencement of the inaugural programme from 8:00-9:00 am on October 20.
Neizokhotuo Belho further related that all logistics including food and accommodation have been arranged for participating students from districts other than Kohima completely free of cost while the accompanying parents or teachers can also avail the facility at a nominal cost.
In the initial years, the Championship was conducted for students of classes 8-12, which has now been brought down to classes 6-9 to ensure that students who win the championship would be able to participate in the regional or zonal level.

Technical Convenor Vilekho Bio informed that the official dictionary will be the latest 12th edition of the Oxford dictionary while stating that they have been using Oxford dictionary since the inception of the Championship.
The winner of the Nagaland Spelling Bee Championship 2026 will receive a cash prize of Rs 80,000 while the 2nd and 3rd prize winner will receive a cash prize of Rs 60,000 and Rs 40,000 respectively. The quarter finalist, young speller and promising speller will all receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each along with citations and trophies.
