3 Corps celebrates Raising Day

Dimapur, February 3 (MExN): On the occasion of ‘26th  Raising Day’ of 3 Corps Lt Gen N K Singh, UYSM, AVSM, VSM GOC 3 Corps has extended warm greetings and best wishes to all ranks, civilians and families of the Spear Corps. He also recalled the contribution by the retired fraternity and their families on this momentous occasion.
A press note stated that HQ 3 Corps was raised on February 4, 1985 in Rangapahar to maintain peace and security in the North Eastern States of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya with 8 and 57 Mountain Divisions, under its command, in addition to troops of ASSAM RIFLES. In 1988, 57 Mountain Division proved their mettle during OP PAWAN in Sri Lanka. The 8 Mountain Division was moved out to Kashmir in 1990. Later the Corps during OP PARAKRAM rose to the occasion and mobilized in record time at the Western front, to assume the assigned role in December 2001. With additional responsibilities in the recent years, the Corps has been actively involved in its primary task of safeguarding the borders.
GOC has appreciated all ranks of the Spear Corps in bringing progress, prosperity and development in North East India. On this occasion, he also paid homage to those valiant soldiers who fearlessly and selflessly made the supreme sacrifice in the call of duty. Their dedication, commitment and sacrifice have enabled Spear Corps to ensure peace and security in its area of responsibility, it stated.
GOC has wished that the highly enlightened people of North East should work for building up peace and prosperity along with the great strides being made by the rest of the world. "He appealed to all insurgent groups in North East to give up violence and come to the negotiating table to resolve their grievances". GOC expressed his happiness and observed that "2010 emerged to be the year of least violence in North East" in many years. GOC appreciated the people of the North East India for their cooperation and further added that Army is for the people and by the people and it will continue to be people friendly in all spheres.
GOC also conveyed good wishes to all the people of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for their good health, prosperity and happiness in their families. He asked all ranks of Spear Corps to maintain the highest standards of integrity, discipline and concern for the people of North East India. He wished all ranks and families of Spear Corps ‘Good Luck and God Speed’ on this auspicious occasion, the note said.
