‘78 year is a long period for a person, but for a Nation it is only a beginning’

Acüyi Vadeo

Joint Secretary, NNC

Respected Bampi, Honourable Kedahge, FGN and colleagues, NNC Officials, High Ranking Naga Army Officers, fellow National Workers and gatherers. First of all I give thanks to the Almighty God and the planners of this program for giving me this opportunity which I am humbly to accept it. I give highest salute and honour to our pioneering leaders and patriotic National Workers who have sacrificed their lives for the Naga Nation for which we are here today.

Unification of the Nagas

The Naga Nationalism began with the formation of the Naga Club in 1918 followed by the formation of the NNC on 2nd February, 1946 and declaration of Naga Independence on 14th August, 1947 one day ahead of India’s. The NNC under the leadership of AZ Phizo conducted the Naga Voluntary Plebiscite on 16th May, 1951 to remain a sovereign Nation.

AZ Phizo was the instrumental in uniting various Naga Regions under the common umbrella of NNC for the cause of Naga sovereignty. So also it is wonderful and interesting to know that in the midst of enmity and fighting against one another among the Villages, AZ Phizo went to every corner of Nagaland and asked them to come up and fight together for the common cause of Naga sovereignty. Thereby all these kinds of enmity and fighting against one another were completely stopped in our land for the cause of our Nation.

God Hand upon the Nagas

Though Nagas are not Israelites, through prophecy God revealed to the Nagas that Nagas would be the second Israel. My works and plan will be fulfilled on the Nagas which are not done on the Israel, says the Lord. During this long years of resistance against the enemy, India tried to defeat us but God never abandoned us and always protects and guides our people on the way to China and Pakistan for procurement of Arms and ammunition to defend our land. God was miraculously leading the Nagas and guiding us day and night in the wilderness of thick jungle and forest while encountering with enemy and also when we lost our ways.

I also would like to stress on a brief story of one Burmese Army Officer who met Gen Mowu in Nagaon Jail, Assam. When the Naga Armies were taking shelter on the Bank of a River, the Burmese Army came to attack them and the Naga Army have no other way to escape either to surrender or fight against the enemy. At this critical points of time, they decided to cross the River knowing not the River is deep. Miraculously they crossed the river without any problem/difficulty. Seeing them, the Burmese Army marched to the River and while they were crossing the river, the water took away almost of them. This made the surviving Burmese Armies very astonished. To this astonishment the Burmese Army officer asked Gen Mowu what God the Nagas worship. This story was revealed by Gen Mowu to Adinno Phizo, President, NNC in London.

Factions and Present Situation

In order to overthrow and condemn the leadership of AZ Phizo, Th. Muivah and Isak Chishi Swu tried to envelope their lies and take the name of Shillong Accord as their weapons and blindly branded AZ Phizo as traitor and betrayer of the Naga Nation. Then they formed the so-called National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) on 31st January, 1980. With the formation of this so-called NSCN, they began to kill hundreds of innocent Naga publics in the Eastern sector of Nagaland for opposing their socialist ideology. And they have so far killed about 4000 Nagas.

The NSCN needs to clarify the following points:

• Why have they changed their Independence Day celebration from 13th August to 14th August now?

• In their Manifesto and Polarisation, they used ‘National Socialist Council of Nagaland.’ Then why do they use ‘Nagalim’ now?

• Why was Th. Muivah released from Bangkok Jail, Thailand on the request of three former Prime Ministers of India?

• Of which passport did Th. Muivah and Isak Swu travel in Europe?

• The London base Myanmar International News (MIN) Editor Aung Ye Myit wrote, “During 1979 ... Muivah and Isak were contacted and recruited by Mrs Indira Gandhi’s administration through the Research Analysis Wing, RAW.” ... (Quote: News Magazine Feb. 1981 Vol. 2 page 2). If so...

At present the renegade groups are demanding solution of competencies from GOI which is needless for the Nagas. It is like a case between father and son of one family under the constitution of India and not two entities. It must be very clear that NNC/FGN always stands for sovereignty as a Nation and not a party of such kind of solution and competencies. “If any additional autonomy or fund is given, it will benefit only for a few individuals, NNC won’t be a party to any such arrangement. This is not an economic issue” Says, Adinno Phizo, President, NNC.

The Stand and Position of NNC/FGN

It is quite clear that God is protecting and guiding us if we don’t go astray from the path of Naga National Principle. What is to be done is done by the NNC led by AZ Phizo, father of our Nation and it is our bounden duty to follow the footprints of our pioneers where there is our future. It is our moral duty to humbly work for our people, not to be a lost people, rather stick our pledge to make our land and people a free Nation. We have faced horrible loss of lives and properties in the hands of the aggressor India for nearly 8 decades. 78 year is a long period for a person, but for a Nation it is only a beginning.

The act of Genocide like Oting incident may happen at any time in Nagaland as the so-called AFSPA is arbitrarily on the run in Nagaland. Never expect that justice will come from GOI, as it is a sole intention of India and will continue its evil intention and wicked policy till India occupies our land. These kinds of acts on the Nagas will not deter us in defence of our sovereign birthright.

The renegade groups holding peace talks with GOI will always say ‘the meeting was cordial and fruitful’. But in reality it is only a fraudulent tactics to gain the support of our people. However, India knows very well of it that she has no way to grant Independence to Nagas. The More GOI uses its force on the Nagas, the more the Nagas will draw sympathy from the world communities as the atrocities committed by India against Nagaland will expose wider and wider.

Though there are many hurdles before us, we cannot remain in adamant position, but our duty is to educate our people about the true history as the Naga Nation belongs to the people. We must be very watchful of enemy tactics playing on the Nagas. When our people come to know the national rights and reunite in the original home, everything will come back to its right way of our destiny. So that Nagas can play to a larger role.
