Funeral on October 10 at 11:00 am at ABCC Mission Compound Ground, Kohima
Kohima, October 9 (MExN): The funeral of Naga National Council (NNC) President Adinno Phizo, who died at a private hospital in Kohima on Thursday, will be held on October 10 at the ABCC Mission Compound Ground, Kohima NNC and Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) announced on Friday.
Phizo, 94, passed away at 8:00 pm on October 8 after a brief illness. She was reportedly undergoing treatment at Bethel Medical Centre.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, the funeral announcement said. It was issued in consultation with the bereaved family, and the NNC and FGN invited “the Naga people to join in remembering the life and service of our beloved leader, Adinno Phizo, and to commend the departed into the hands of God.”
The programme will begin with a national procession, followed by the reception of the coffin and a Christian funeral service. National and public tributes and flower tributes will follow, after which the commendation and Christian commitment will be conducted.
A procession will then proceed to the burial place, where the final rites and prayers will be held at Dzüsie in Khonoma.
A Naga National Funeral Committee, constituted by the competent authority, will be responsible for coordinating and carrying out all arrangements for the funeral, the announcement said.
Further details regarding the programme and arrangements will be communicated through the competent channels, it added.
KCCI announces 4-hour shutdown
All shops and business establishments under the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) will remain closed on October 10 from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm as a mark of respect to NNC President Adinno Z Phizo, whose funeral service will be held that day. In a notice issued by KCCI Vice President (Action) Khriesazo Liezietsu, the chamber has requested all its members to cooperate and join in mourning with the bereaved family and the Naga people.
