The Ao Senden, Mokokchung has decided to grant ‘a grace period of twenty more days’ to the Trident Company under the NHIDCL, PMU-Mokokchung in relation to an ultimatum served to the company on September 12 to immediately restore the route NH702(D) Mariani-Mokokchung and make the same motorable by September 20.

Informing this during a press conference at the president’s chamber, Ao Senden Office, Mokokchung on September 22, they highlighted the matters related to the NH702D and the ultimatum served to the construction company overseeing the highway.

Ao Senden, President, Chubawati Longchar said that following the ultimatum served to the Trident Company, the organisation has visited the site several times. Longchar said, “We have visited the site three times since we served the ultimatum and we have seen the condition of the road and the quality of the work. We have seen the reality work and it is not satisfactory at all.”

He added, As an apex organization and a parent body, we have looked into the issues from all angles and came to an agreement to grant a grace period of twenty more days i.e. September 22-October 10, to the concerned authority to restore and make the road motorable.”

Further, the Ao Senden stated that it stands strongly in support of the order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung on the restriction of the movement of heavy vehicles carrying more than 20 tons and 10 wheeled truck or above on the same road.

It reiterated that Ao Senden will not allow the sub-letting of contract works to other parties by the contract holder. ‘The system of approving contracts to lowest bidder in a tender call by the issuing agency/authority will not be entertained in Mokokchung district. These decisions have been made so that the qualities of the contract works are not compromised and better works are carried out,’ it stated.

“As a parent body, we are giving 20 more days to the company. If the company does not fulfil the demands of the people, the Ao Senden, with whatever power we have, will take our own course of action,” it cautioned.

“We have looked at the issue from all angles. Visited the site three times, comparison of their work is not satisfactory. As an apex body whatever powers we have, we can implement but as mercy grace period,” Ao Senden asserted. “All decisions are made for the welfare of the people and for the good of everyone, therefore, we seek the co-operation from the people,” it added.
