AR Karate team wins Independence Cup Championship trophy

Dimapur, August 17 (MExN): The Karate team of the Assam Rifles returned to ARTC & S, Shokhuvi, Nagaland after winning the Senior Division ‘Seventh All India Independence Cup Karate Championship’. The Championship was conducted under the aegis of the All India Karate Federation at the Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on August 12 and 13, 2011.
The team bagged a total of eight medals consisting of two Gold, two Silver and four Bronze medals in the championship and emerged champion with 14 points which put them two points ahead of the ITBP team who were declared the runners up, followed by the teams of the CRPF, MP and Delhi states.  In all, 21 teams representing various states and central organizations participated in the event.   Ch Roshan Singh (below 55 kg) and Ng Budhichandra Singh (below 65 kg) won Gold Medal, Vanlalngheta (below 50 kg) and S Daimary (below 65 kg) won Silver Medal whereas P Kiran Meitei (below 55 kg), Dinesh Meitei (below 60 kg), PP Chavan (below 65 kg) and Inaoton Singh (below 75 kg) won Bronze Medal.
