As part of its social outreach under the civic programme Kiphire Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (N) inaugurated a mushroom cultivation centre to promote aatmanirbharta (self-reliance) among the local people of Kiphire town.

Speaking on the occasion as special guest, MLA T Yangseo Sangtam expressed gratitude to the Assam Rifles for taking the initiative to promote mushroom cultivation. He hoped that the project would uplift people of the far flung Kiphire district. Sangtam also emphasised on the importance of work culture and said citizens should work towards self-sustenance instead of being dependent on the government.

Sangtam further encouraged the youths and women to take up mushroom farming, stating that it is a profitable business and less labour intensive when compared to other types of farming.

Additionally, Kiphire SDO (C) James T Khulu said that the centre would encourage the local people to take up mushroom farming as an alternative means of income generation and at the same time preserve and conserve the environment.

The project was established under the Assam Rifles Civic Action Programme and is focused on promoting organic mushroom cultivation as an alternate means of self sustenance for the people of Kiphire. The villagers and members of the tribal organisations expressed their profound gratitude to the Assam Rifles for this novel initiative.
