Arms dealer, opium peddler held in Manipur

An alleged arms dealer has been arrested with three arms and ammunition from Lilong area of Manipur’s Thoubal district.

 

The alleged arms dealer was apprehended by a combined team of police commandos and troops of 6 Assam Rifles from Lilong Bazar last night, around 7:30 pm, police said on Sunday.

 

The three arms – two AK series rifles with magazines and one 9mm pistol along with magazine were recovered during a raid at his house in a follow up action to disclosure made by him, police added.

 

The apprehended person along with the recovered arms has been handed over to Lilong police station where a case has been lodged.

 

Yet in another unrelated incident, police commandos in Bishnupur district arrested a person with eight kg of opium on October 12 around 6:00 pm, police said.

 

Police said that four packets of opium (each packet weight 2 kg) were recovered from the possession of the man. He was later handed over to Moirang police station where a case has been lodged.
